Our Food Department is one of the most popular departments within the school.
Students learn the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet and at KS3 they have the opportunity to plan and prepare a range of healthy meals developing practical skills and adapting recipes to suit a variety of dietary needs. We have recently introduced a Master Chef project at KS3 where students learn to cook a range of starters, main course meals and desserts. Learning is enhanced through practical workshops, visiting Chefs and this year we are off to the Good Food Show in Birmingham to watch Raymond Blanc in action.
At KS4 students have the option to take Food Preparation & Nutrition as a GCSE. This course looks in detail at the principles of Nutrition, dietary needs of a range of groups and the functions of ingredients in a range of dishes. The course is 50% coursework and 50% external exam and again learning is underpinned by a range of practical activities.
Our aim is to make learning fun whilst teaching valuable life skills for the future!
